Description: The attached report presents the results of a survey whose purpose was to explore the various uses of technology by life insurance companies. The survey was conducted by the Technology Survey Subcommittee of the Society of Actuaries Life Insurance Mortality and Underwriting Survey Committee. The primary focus of this survey was the impact of technology on mortality studies and underwriting.

Description: The scope of nontraditional marketing, as viewed by the Nontraditional Marketing Section of the Society, continues to expand. Originally, it encompassed direct response, credit insurance, and payroll deduction. Recent emphasis has added marketing through through financial institutionsand through pre-need funeral plans. Description: Come prepared for an engaging workshop where you will have the opportunity to share thoughts on and work through a variety of questions concerning how actuaries must adapt to account for newer underwriting and distribution practices. Seating will be limited for this workshop focused on life actuaries who price and set assumptions for products impacted by new underwriting tools and processes such as accelerated underwriting (AU) or direct-to-consumer (DTC) distribution.

Note this survey was completed prior to the onset of COVID-19, so that issue was not addressed in this survey. The purpose of the Survey was to examine mortality improvement practices with respect to life insurance and annuity pricing and financial projections in both the U.S. and Canada.
